2008 Education Conference

Title: Evidence-Based Practice, Scientifically Based Instruction, and Educational Effectiveness

The 2008 ABA International Education Conference was a two-day, primarily single-track conference on evidence-based education focusing on research and applied issues. This event addressed the current state of knowledge of evidence-based practices at the policy, evaluation, and practice levels. The conference examined critical issues including the difficulty of defining “evidence,” current findings and gaps in educational effectiveness research, and the complexity involved in the design and implementation of effective programs. Leading federal representatives, researchers and educators described the status of research methodology in validating interventions, sources of evidence, and what to do in the absence of validated practices. The program looked at the role funding and advocacy play in advancing the agenda of the evidence-based education movement for researchers and educators. Educators (public and private, school-age and higher education), researchers, program developers, and education decision makers will benefit from this important event.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed to the 2008 Education Conference: Evidence-Based Practice, Scientifically Based Instruction, and Educational Effectiveness. The conference was a great success.
