Mission/Objectives

Our purpose and mission are to develop and disseminate knowledge about behaviour analysis as a science. MABA's interests lie in basic science focusing on principles governing human and nonhuman behaviour (i.e., the experimental analysis of behaviour), as well as applied science focusing on application of those principles for improvement of socially important problems (i.e., the applied behaviour analysis), and disseminating this information to stimulate interest in, and correct misunderstandings of, behaviour analysis. To achieve this MABA is committed to the following:

Description of Membership

Our members include parents, researchers, psychologists, behaviour analysts, students, and professors, and we invite all others who are interested.

Full and Student members: Individuals who sign a declaration to support the organization and to obey its bylaws. These members at a minimum are enrolled in a graduate program with a focus on behaviour analysis; graduates of programs with a focus in behaviour analysis; or are employed as behaviour analysts, behaviour therapists, professors, or researchers. Other suitable candidates will be accepted as agreed upon by the Executive Council. An applicant must fill out a membership application and pay the membership fee. The council must approve the application.

Affiliate members: Anyone who does not meet the criteria for full membership but would like to be involved, and signs a declaration to support the organization and obey its bylaws.

Member benefits include:

Recurring or Annual Events

Annual conference each fall; 6th Annual General Meeting, December 2011.

Newsletters/Publications

During 2010, we produced two newsletters featuring research reports, interviews with prominent behaviour analysts, information on behavioural events and services in the community, book reviews, and a section on everyday behaviour analysis. We are currently working on our spring 2011 newsletter and plan to develop an online version of our newsletter.

Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts

The University of Manitoba is home to a BCBA approved MA and Ph.D. training program and the province of Manitoba funds EIBI treatment for preschool and school-age children affected by autism spectrum disorder. Consequently, behaviour analysis continues to grow in our province, attracting students, clinicians, and researchers from around the world. Our organization is working to disseminate information about both the experimental analysis of behaviour and its clinical application, in order to promote awareness of our field. Given our long-term objective of providing the public with information about behaviour analysis in our province, we continue to generate new and creative strategies for uniting researchers and clinicians to facilitate further development of the field within our province. We are currently working in collaboration with our local psychology regulatory body to develop a licensing model within the province of Manitoba for behaviour analysts.
