Mission/Objectives

The European Institute for the Study of Human Behavior (Istituto Europeo per lo Studio del Comportamento Umano, IESCUM) is a nonprofit organization located in Parma. The general purpose of this association is to engage in acts of social usefulness, with a charitable and nonprofit mission respecting the freedom and dignity of all people. This association is nonpartisan, nonpolitical, and exclusively engaged in social and humanitarian purposes.

Description of Membership

Membership is open to all persons, institutions, organizations, or associations that have met the criteria as indicated by the chapter's constitution. Membership is open to Italian and foreign citizens of any gender 18 years or older. Applicants shall submit to the Executive Council a written application including full name, address, place and date of birth, and professional qualifications, as well as a statement of acceptance of the by-laws and deliberations of the chapter. The Executive Council, after an evaluation of the professional and personal qualifications of the applicant (within 60 days of receipt), will deliberate and provide a written response to the applicant.

Recurring Annual Events

"The Analysis of Behavior: Theoretical-Methodological Aspects and Application to the Autistic Disorder." This two-year coursework is now in its fourth edition. The program is aimed at providing training and both theoretical knowledge and practical skills on applied behavioral analysis with a particular emphasis on interventions for autism and PDD. The course will focus on the development of advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of the principles of behavior analysis and the application of the principles within clinical settings.

Publications/Newsletters

IESCUM disseminates scientifical knowledge and publishes informations about its events and activities via the website www.iescum.org and the newsletter IESCUM Monitor. There are three editions of IESCUM Monitor: General, Abautismo, and ACT, each one published approximately every two months.

Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts

The founding members of the chapter have been working in the field of behavior analysis for more than 30 years. A new era of BA is beginning in Italy.
