CE for Behavior Analysts
ABA International is approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB) to offer CE for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs)® and Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts (BCABAs)® . The BACB will only accept CE that has been earned by a certified behavior analyst after the analyst has taken and passed the BACB exam, and been issued a certificant number by the BACB.
The BACB recognizes six types of CE, as follows:
- Type 1: College courses in which content is entirely behavior analytic. (Up to 100% of BACB-required CE may be earned from type 1 CE).
- Type 2: Events offered by approved providers (e.g., ABAI CE events; up to 100% of BACB-required CE may be earned from type 2 CE).
- Type 3: Behavior analytic events not approved by BACB/provider that nonetheless relate directly to the practice of behavior analysis. (Up to 25% of BACB-required CE may be earned from type 3 CE). Certified behavior analysts may earn type 3 credits by attending ABAI events that have not been offered by the Association for CE.
- Type 4: Instruction of a Type 1 or 2 event. (Up to 25% of BACB-required CE may be earned from type 4 CE).
- Type 5: Participation in BACB-sanctioned activities (e.g., item writing workshops; up to 25% of BACB-required CE may be earned from type 5 CE).
- Type 6: Re-taking and passing the BCBA or BCABA exam at the time of renewal.
Certificants may earn 100% of required CE at ABAI events. More detailed information about BACB CE types and requirements are located at www.bacb.com. Information about specific upcoming ABAI events where BACB CE is available can be found in the EVENTS section of the ABAI Web site.
How to Earn BACB CE for ABAI Events
To receive CE for convention and conference event sessions, attendees must:
- Pick up a CE packet (sign-in and out sheets, evaluation form, job aid) from the CE desk located near the ABA International registration desk at the event site.
- Attend the entire event.
- Sign in and out of the event with the volunteer located near the door of the room. Volunteers are unable to sign sheets for attendees entering over 5 minutes late or leaving more than 5 minutes early.
- Complete and return the evaluation form provided by the room volunteer.
- Have paid the credit fee.
- Provide a BACB certificant number.
Certificates will be posted on the attendees’ ABAI Portal Account within 15 business days of ABAI’s receipt of payment and relevant paperwork. You can view, download, and print your CE certificates through your ABAI Portal Account via this link: Your Portal Account.
How to Earn BACB CE for Pre-convention Workshops
Select pre-convention workshops will be available for CE prior to the ABAI annual convention for behavior analysts (all day Friday and Saturday morning). To receive CE, attendees must:
- Attend the entire workshop. Partial credit cannot be granted.
- Sign in and out of the event.
- Complete and return the evaluation form provided by the room volunteer.
- Have paid the credit fee of $10/credit hour. ($30 for 3-hour workshops and $60 for 6-hour workshops, in addition to the workshop registration fee). Individuals requiring both PSY and BACB credit for one workshop are only required to pay the fee only once.
- Provide a BACB certificant number.
Certificates will be posted on the attendees’ ABAI Portal Account within 15 business days of ABAI’s receipt of payment.
How to Earn BACB CE for Webcast/DVD Packages
ABAI has launched its new on-line continuing education program by offering BACB CE for the 2008 autism conference Issues and Recent Advancements in the Behavioral Treatment of Autism: Practical Strategies for Changing Behavior at Home and School Webcast/DVD package. Purchase the DVD/Webcast CE package from the ABA International On-line Store and earn CE in the comfort of your own home. (Please note that persons who have received CE while attending in person a conference or convention cannot obtain CE for watching the same events on a Webcast or DVD and passing the quiz.).
CE will be dependant on the successful completion of an on-line quiz, which will be made available upon purchase on the buyer’s ABAI Portal Account. Only the purchaser of the DVD/Webcast package will be eligible to earn CE credits and will have 6 months from the time of purchase to take the quiz and three opportunities to pass it with an 80% minimum score.
Your continuing education certificate will be posted on the ABAI Portal Account within 15 business days of completion of the on-line quiz with a score of 80% or better.
