Evidence-Based Practice
By Dr. Teri Lewis-Palmer
The purpose of the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) SIG is to promote socially important behavior by facilitating effective and sustainable practices in real world settings. Our goal is to develop a SIG that reflects member input and focuses on a select number of activities that can be completed within the year. To that end, we asked members to provide information about activities that the EBP SIG could prioritize over the next few years. Before providing a summary of the results, we would like to extend a quick thank you to those members who provided us with information.
Collaboration around EBP issues with policy makers, other disciplines, and other ABAI SIGs emerged as a top priority. Additionally, members indicated a strong interest in support research and developing a common definition of EBP. Finally, a third area of focus involves increasing visibility of EBP issues by increasing our presence within ABA conferences and across non-ABA conferences, and by disseminating white papers on relevant EBP issues.
There are several activities that the EBP SIG could undertake. However, it is important that we focus our efforts on those activities that are meaningful and achievable. At the SIG meeting we discussed results from the survey with the intent of determining activities for the upcoming years and reviewed proposed bylaws.
If you have any questions or comments regarding EBP SIG activities or would like more information please contact me at tlewispalmer@gmail.com. We look forward to working together over the next year.
