Behaviorists Interested in Gambling

By Dr. Mark Dixon

The mission of the Behaviorists Interested in Gambling (BIG) SIG is to foster and promote research on gambling and treatments for problem gambling from a behavioral perspective. Meeting this mission is important for behavior analysis because we, as a field, have basically been silent in the large literature on gambling.

The BIG SIG recently published a new journal, Analysis of Gambling Behavior. Originally published on line, Analysis of Gambling Behavior is now housed at the University of North Dakota, which will print the journal (two issues per year) and share ownership with Dr. Jeff Weatherly. Back issues will be available on line (url to be announced soon).

Consider taking out a subscription to Analysis of Gambling Behavior ($40: Professionals & Institutions; $20: Students), by contacting Dr. Jeff Weatherly (jeffrey_weatherly@und.nodak.edu) or Dr. Mark Dixon (mdixon@siu.edu).

In other news, the BIG SIG elected Dr. Simon Dymond of Swansea University as its President. Simon is looking forward to undertaking the onerous social activities and networking that this position confers.

For more information about the BIG SIG, or to get involved in SIG activities, contact Dr. Simon Dymond (s.o.dymond@swansea.ac.uk).
