Verbal Behavior
By Dr. William Potter
The VB SIG is dedicated to promoting research and application of the behavioral
approach to language. Our goal is to support collaborations among researchers
and practitioners, as well as support the journal which publishes much of
the research in this area (The Analysis of Verbal Behavior).
This year, the VB SIG sponsored a student research competition, thanks to
Judah Axe who organized the competition. We also have a SIG newsletter available
at the conference, and online at the SIG Website, at www.vbsig.org.
Thanks to Matt Normand for putting the newsletter together and obtaining
manuscripts.
The SIG also aids in bringing researchers from discriminability disciplines to ABA. For example, last year we contributed to bringing in Jeffrey Elman, of the University of California. Elman is widely recognized for his research on language processing, development, and computational models of cognition.
The VB Website can be viewed at www.vbsig.org. If you would like to contribute your presentations, or papers to be available on the SIG site, e-mail Bill Potter at wpotter@csustan.edu. Please include in your e-mail a letter giving the SIG permission to post the presentation. The SIG reserves the right to limit the number and type of presentations that will be place on the site -- we are primarily interested in articles related to Skinner’s analysis of VB, as well as extensions of that analysis.
If you need to pay your dues, or would like to contribute to the efforts of the VB SIG, please send your contribution to our treasurer, David Reitman at:
Center for Psychological Studies
Nova Southeastern University
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33314
Dave’s e-mail is reitmand@nova.edu. Dues for full members are $10 for one year and $5 for students.
Finally, TAVB is soliciting manuscripts; send relevant research or theoretical articles (or reviews) to:
Dr. Jack Michael, Editor
1000 Berkshire Dr.
