Verbal Behavior SIG News
By Dr. Bill Potter
The Verbal Behavior Special Interest Group (VB SIG) held its annual meeting on Sunday May 28th. This year the VB SIG sponsored a student research competition; many thanks to Judah Axe who organized the competition. The winners were announced at the annual meeting. We also have a SIG newsletter, available at the convention and on line at the SIG Web site, at www.vbsig.org. Thanks to Matt Normand for putting the newsletter together and obtaining manuscripts.
The VB SIG also sponsored one of the invited Verbal Behavior talks at ABA. Jeffrey Elman, of the University of California, gave his talk “Generalizing Beyond Our Experience: Lessons from Neural Networks” on Saturday, May 27 th. Elman is widely recognized for his research on language processing, development, and computational models of cognition.
The VB Web site has been redesigned, and can be viewed at www.vbsig.org. If you would like to contribute your presentations or papers to be available on the SIG site, e-mail Bill Potter at wpotter@csustan.edu. Please include in your e-mail a letter giving the SIG permission to post the presentation. The SIG reserves the right to limit the number and type of presentations that will be place on the site – we are primarily interested in articles related to Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior, as well as extensions of that analysis.
One of the SIG’s main goals is to support the journal The Analysis of Verbal Behavior. Last year we did a promotional mailing for the journal. Go to http://www.abainternational.org/journals/analysis_verbal_behavior.asp for information about the journal and for subscription information.
