Chicago ABA
By Dr. Charles Merbitz
CABA, the Chicago Association for Behavior Analysis, provides meetings, a verbal community, professional presentations and data exchanges to ABA members and behavior analysts in northern Illinois. In 2005-2006, most CABA meetings were hosted by the ABA faculty of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Highlights in Fall 2005, included a presentation by Dr. Mike Mozzoni from Timber Ridge Ranch in Arkansas on ABA in head trauma rehabilitation. Also, Ms. Elayne Nickalou from AimStar Precision Learning in Bolingbrook, IL discussed the fluency-building techniques used at AimStar, and ABA students from the Chicago School shared some Celeration Charts. In Spring 2006, Mr. Tim Sullivan from the Brookfield Zoo gave a fascinating presentation on the Zoo’s use of operant techniques throughout its collection to improve the lives of both animals and staff.
CABA meetings are generally monthly during the academic year and most are held at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Each year in May a CABA meeting is held at ABA, and another is held at the annual conference of the Behavior Analysis Society of Illinois (BASIL) in April. Information about CABA and upcoming meetings, membership applications, and contact information is available from Ms. Cheryl Heck, Program Manager for ABA at the Chicago School, at check@csopp.edu or 312-329-6600. Officers of CABA are:
